Pottery figures of a mounted soldier and horse made from reddish-brown earthenware, constructed in a modular manner with the horse’s legs and tail, as well as the soldier’s hands, originally formed separately and fitted into sockets on the body. The soldier, wearing a helmet-like headdress, sits upright on the horse, with a simplified facial treatment and restrained rendering of the garments defining the sculptural character. The surface is left unglazed, exposing the natural clay body, and the horse follows the realistic representational conventions of Han Dynasty
